Employee Engagement—
The Critical Element

When employees experience the right things in their work they report higher levels of work passion.  Managers need to understand how to foster this positive environment.--Chief Learning Officer Magazine

The number of people saying that they are satisfied with their work is the lowest in 22 years, and according to Newsweek, 54% of employed Americans say that they’ll be looking for a new job once the economy turns around.  For the under-30 crowd that number leaps to 71%.  That’s a lot of people waiting to bolt, and you have to wonder what that means for your own workplace.  The cost of replacing an employee can easily be as much as his or her first year’s salary.  That’s too much to pay.  Luckily, you don’t have to.

Fortunately, we know what makes people want to stay with their organizations even in the good times, and perform in ways that allow their teams and their organizations to succeed.  The key is engagement.  It’s people caring about what they do because what they do and how they do it matters to them and to others, especially their bosses.  The numbers back this up.  The Gallup organization has found, for example, that organizations where most of the employees are highly engaged are:

  • 56% more likely to have higher customer loyalty
  • 38% more likely to have above-average productivity, and
  • 27% more likely to report higher profitability.

And how about retention?  Those workplaces were 50% more likely to have lower turnover, as well.  Learn more here.

We can help you support an engaged workforce through on-site workshops and coaching.
